Cromeleque dos Almendres

Writer: soniamelodiassoniamelodias

Cromeleque dos Almendres is part of Évora's Megalithic Circuit.

Basically it is a group of monuments that allow us to travel to prehistory, and this one is one of the most important ones of the Iberian Peninsula.

It was a monument with religious functions and probably a primitive astronomical observatory.

The road that leads to the monument is relatively long, so to visit this monument is also a way to get to know the magnificent Alentejo's countryside.

"It is the largest megalithic monument in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the oldest in the world, built about 7000 years ago, it is very close to Évora and has about 100 monoliths and is quite easy to find, all you have to do is follow the directions from the village of Our Lady of Guadalupe."
