Last year´s summer vacation: Lanzarote

Traveling is one of the best things in life. It means to broaden horizons, to meet new people, new cultures, new ways of life.

As a human being, I believe that traveling teaches us to be more tolerant because we experience events that would be beyond our reach if we confined ourselves to the borders of our countries of origin. We learn to respect, to appreciate diversity, difference, multiculturalism, things that make the world so beautiful, rich and wonderful.

Last summer we went to the Island of Lanzarote.

Lanzarote is known as the Island of Fire, because it was here that the longest volcanic explosion took place, almost 300 years ago, between 1730 and 1736 and it covered 1/4 of the surface of the island with lava, giving it the appearance of a newly formed land.

Some philosophers even speculated that Lanzarote was part of the missing continent of Atlantis. The island is often referred to as one of the Fortunate Islands because of its prime climate, since it rarely rains and temperatures do not drop below 20 degrees even in winter.

The island of Lanzarote is divided essentially into 3 major tourist resorts: Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise. More recently another one has emerged, Puerto Calero, it is located 5 km down the coast of Puerto del Carmen and here is situated the stylish Marina of Puerto Calero. Here are the best shops, bars and restaurants, but there are no beaches. It is mostly directed to the upper class segment. The remaining 3 tourists resorts are each made up of a set of golden sand beaches.

As usually I made a personalized guide to help us explore the island. You can download it in the download PDF documents page :
