Custard cream pie

As I told you in my first post one of my hobbies is cooking.

Surprisingly I use to hate cooking, but now I enjoy it a lot! Never did like any of house related tasks. I always imagined I would be a career woman for life. But it´s just as they say: “Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans” …

As I was writing my first post, I was also preparing a special dessert to surprise my husband Peter tonight: a custard cream pie.

I´m taking this time between jobs to concentrate myself on more home dedicated tasks, such as cooking, decorating, spending more time with our fur kids and it has been amazing. It also helps me deal with my chronic depression.

It´s not my recipe, I got it from Pinterest :

but I´m happy to share it with you.

It is simple and inexpensive.

Here are the ingredients:

  • 1 pack of puff pastry

  • 4 egg yolks and 1 whole egg

  • 1.5 dl of water

  • 250 gr of sugar

  • 3 tablespoons of flour

  • 1 package of cream

  • 1 dl of milk

  • lemon peel

  • 1 stick of cinnamon

You start by lining a removable tart with puff pastry.

Than mix the water with the sugar, the cinnamon stick and the lemon peel and take it to the stove. Bring to the boil for 10 minutes.

In a bowl mix the flour well with the milk and add the egg yolks. Then add the cream and then the sugar syrup. You´ll have to be extra careful because the syrup will be very hot and you will have to mix it very quickly so it won´t solidify.

Pour the stuffing over the puff pastry and place in the oven at 180 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes until it looks like a cream cake. Serve fresh.

Mine looks beautiful as you can see in the photo!

Good luck with yours.
